Taiwan Research Institute (TRI) was established in 1994 by a group of leading members of the business community in Taiwan. The Institute is operated by academic elites, and chartered by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China as a privately funded non-profit organization. Its mission is to engage in the planning of Taiwan’s overall strategic development and the in-depth study and analysis of Taiwan’s public policy, and to promote ultimately Taiwan’s long-term modernization. TRI dedicates itself to the general public as a non-partisan specialized think tank.

TRI follows the belief: “to draw together collective wisdom, to plan for the future, to foster social transformation, and to facilitate economic development”. It focuses on promoting the research of national policy and planning, forward-looking construction and development, economic and industrial innovation, financial and monetary evaluation, social system and governance, energy and environment policy, science & technology and artificial intelligence, and cross-strait and international exchange and cooperation. TRI is one of the large-scale public think tanks in Taiwan.

TRI’s day-to-day operations are a tri-partite process, in which experts from government, business community and academic circles work together to provide jointly high quality research and consultation to the government and the general public. For the past years since its establishment, TRI has, under various government commission and contracts, completed a series of in-depth research and analysis on numerous highly important public policy issues. It is fair to say that TRI has actively participated in, and therefore, born witness to, the stunning political and economic transformation in Taiwan.

TRI recognizes the important role played by human resource, it therefore recruits only the best research associates from government, business, academic circles, as well as from high-tech industries. TRI’s research associates are all well-educated, competently trained experts in their chosen fields. The quality of their research has been highly regarded by the public, both domestically and internationally.
